Estudio Coral de Buenos Aires
Conductor: Carlos López Puccio
The “Estudio Coral de Buenos Aires” is an Argentine chamber choir specialized in contemporaneous repertoire. Since its foundation in 1981 the choir has
performed for the first time in Argentina the most significant Twentieth Century choral pieces by Ligeti, Poulenc, Schönberg, Petrassi, Dallapiccola, Messiaen, Bernstein, Copland, Penderecki, Chihara, Druckman, Barber, Reger, Pärt, Gorecki, Dusapin, Pizzetti, Tavener, etc. It has also premiered a vast amount of pieces by Argentine authors.
The group has released eleven recordings which include, among others, Messiaen's Cinq Rechants, Poulenc's Figure Humaine, Penderecki's Stabat Mater, Schönberg's Friede auf Erden and Arvo Part's Berliner Messe.
In 1996, the “Estudio Coral de Buenos Aires” made its first European tour, performing at important locations of Spain, France and Belgium.
In 1999 the choir has been distinguished as “Best Chamber Ensemble of the decade” and received the Konex Award —which is Argentina’s highest award.
Carlos López Puccio, Master in Orchestral Conduction, has developed an ample musical career: he has appeared at the most important Argentine venues as symphonic and opera conductor. He has conducted the Argentine Polyphonic National Choir (2000-2003), performing a vast symphonic repertoire including Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, Fauré’s, Duruflé’s, Mozart’s and Verdi’s Requiems, Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis, and Poulenc’s Gloria, among others. He has been the Artistic Advisor of the Colón Theatre in Buenos Aires, and he is widely recognized as a member of the group Les Luthiers, which is extremely famous in the Hispanic world.
He has been given numerous prizes and awards, including the Moliére Prize, granted by the French Government, and the Argentine Musician Critics’ Association. In 2007 the Legislature of Buenos Aires City named him “Illustrious Citizen”, and the Spanish Government conferred him the “Encomienda de Número de la Orden de Isabel la Católica”, the maximum award Spain honours a foreign person with.
