The Estudio Coral de Buenos Aires was founded
in 1981 by a group of young professional musicians who
had been working together for ten years as the vocal
group "9 de Cámara". Under the leadership
of Carlos López Puccio, the ensemble is today
considered the best chamber choir in Argentina, as shown
in the reviews accompanying this introduction. At present
the group
is comprised of 29 professionals -- musicians, singers,
conductors and educators -- who participate ad honorem.
One of the group's aims is to perform chamber choir
repertoire, especially those complex works not traditionally
tackled by amateurs. In the past they have devoted entire
concerts to composers such as Zoltán Kodály,
J. S. Bach and Johannes Brahms, and organized some performances
around the following themes: "Sacred Music of the
Spanish Renaissance", "20th Century French
Composers", "Contemporary American Composers",
"Late 19th Century German speaking Composers"
(Max Reger, Richard Strauss, Hugo Wolf, etc.), Distler's
Mörike Chorliederbuch, 20th Century Sacred Music,
and a capella works by members of "les Six".
Recently they have performed some of the most significant
contemporary works, such as Ligeti's Lux Aeterna, Ejszaka
and Reggel; Goffredo Petrassi's Nonsense, Schönberg's
Friede auf Erden, Krzysztof Penderecki's Veni Creator,
Stabat Mater and Agnus Dei, and Arvo Paart's Berliner
Messe and Magnificat. The Estudio Coral de Buenos Aires
also performs works written especially for t he group
and their conductor by avant-garde Argentinian composers.
In 1987 the group made its Teatro Colón debut,
and they continue to perform there regularly, both a
capella and with orchestra. In 1996 they made presentations
in several cities in Spain, Belgium, Germany and France.
The Estudio Coral de Buenos Aires has participated
in several advanced choral interpretation courses offered
by Carlos López Puccio and María del Carmen
Aguilar at the Camping Musical Bariloche and also in
the frame of the America Cantat II (1996), an international
festival sponsored by the Choral Music International
Federation and the Choral Directors Association.

To date, the group's recordings include: Zoltan Kodaly's
a capella works, Tomás Luis de Victoria's Mass
O Quam Gloriosum est Regnum and Four-part Motets, Johannes
Brahms's Liebeslieder Walzer Op. 52 and Zigeunerlieder, a CD on works by Contemporary American Composers and a collection of 4 CDs. recorded in concert: 1- Rautavaara / Pärt , 2: Poulenc / Gorecki / Bernstein / Hindemith, 3: Pizzetti / Tavener / Holst / Victoria,4: Messiaen / Elgar / Barber / Delius / Lauridsen
The Estudio Coral de Buenos Aires was awarded first
prize in the National Choir Competition held in Buenos
Aires in 1983 and got in 1999 the Platinum Konex Prize,
given every 10 years to the best Chamber Ensemble of
the decade.
